  1. 3 cups Chopped Bottle Gourd/Lauki
  2. 1/3 cup Chana Dal/Bengal Gram Dal
  3. 1 Onion (Chopped)
  4. 4 Green Chillies (Slited into two halves)
  5. 1 Tomato (Chopped)
  6. 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  7. Spice Powders:
  8. 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  9. 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  10. 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
  11. 3/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder or Kitchen King Masala
  12. 1/2 tsp Dry Mango Powder
  13. 1/2 tsp Salt
  14. 3/4 cup Water
  15. For Seasoning:
  16. 3 tbsp Oil
  17. 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
  18. 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  19. 2-3 Dried Red Chillies (Broken)
  20. pinch Asafoetida
  21. 2 Cinnamon - Small Pieces
  22. 6 Cloves Garlic (Finely Chopped)
  23. For Garnishing:
  24. 2 tbsp Coriander Leaves (Chopped)

Steps to make to make Instant Pot Lauki Chana Dal Ki Sabzi

  1. Wash and soak the chana dal in water for minimum 30 minutes to 2 hours. Drain and set aside.
  2. Peel and cut lauki into small cubes. Keep in water and set aside.
  3. Switch on the Instant Pot. Select "Saute". LED displays "On". When the temperature is reached, the LED displays "Hot". Add oil. Add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle.
  4. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, chopped garlic, cinnamon and dried red chillies. Saute until garlic turns light brown. (You can make it in a pressure cooker).
  5. Add the chopped onion and green chillies and saute till the onions are translucent.
  6. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute for few more minutes.
  7. Add the chopped tomato.
  8. Add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, dry mango powder, garam masala powder or kitchen king masala and salt. Saute for few seconds.
  9. Add water and cook for a minute.
  10. Add the chopped lauki. Add the soaked and drained chana dal and mix well.
  11. Cancel saute. Close and lock the lid of the pressure cooker. Turn the steam valve to "Sealed". Select "Pressure Cook"and cook on high pressure for 10 minutes.
  12. When the 10 minutes is up, let the pressure come down naturally. Open the pressure cooker. If the cooked curry has too much gravy, press "Saute" and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes or until you get the desired consistency. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  13. Serve Lauki Chana Dal Ki Sabzi with hot roti or chapati. It can also be served with hot steamed rice.
